How to Make Resolutions You’ll Want to Keep

Doing everything to excess at Christmas has you vowing that, come January 1st, your body will be a temple to all things healthy. The first few difficult days ease into a routine and you soon start seeing the results you want. The sense of looser waistbands, more energy, and clear skin lulls you into a false sense of security and, before you know it, you’re back to where you started!

Make this year different. Choose resolutions that are fun, that will enhance your life and, most importantly, that you will be able to keep.

Find Your Motivation

It is difficult to form good fitness habits without motivation. Take time to think about what you really want to achieve and focus on that. Your motivation has to come from within – no one else can tell you what you want. If you find yourself setting the same resolution every year only to fail, then stop setting those resolutions!

Choose More, Not Less

Instead of denying yourself things you like but which may not be great for you, focus on increasing the things that are, such as eating more vegetables, getting more sleep, spending more time being active, and drinking more water.

Take Care of Your Kit

It is worth investing in good quality clothing and equipment if you are doing something regularly, but if you don’t take care of your kit it won’t last as long as it should. Wash things according to the manufacturer’s instructions and always air dry anything with wool or Lycra. Give orphaned socks a new lease of life by filling them with generic cat litter and stuffing them in your shoes to help them dry quickly and stay odour free.

Enhance Your Natural Beauty

If you’re trying to hide something, then you will always be self-conscious that it’s peeking through your disguise. Nature knows best so stop hiding your freckles under layers of foundation, give your eyebrows a little leeway and swap a harsh hair colour for one which is closer to what it was like as a child for a flattering look that will make you feel and look beautiful.

Laugh More

Laughing is one of the best things you can do for yourself. It boosts your immune system, reduces stress, and releases endorphins that put you on a hormone high.

Stay in touch with people who make you feel good about yourself, and make an effort to reconnect with those who you haven’t seen for a while.
